I love history. I don't have a lot of time to study it, but I tend to remember the human interest bits. In the time of the Roman Empire, the Romans were pretty much constantly at war with the Germanic tribes. Within the Germanic tradition, if a warrior pledged his sword to another person, that meant that the warrior was taking a vow of fidelity and allegiance to the other person, unto death if necessary. I drew from that idea for 'I Give You My Hand.' When we give God our hand, we are saying that we are willing to be led. We give him our life, which means that we are willing to belong to him. We give him our will, which means that we live for a will greater than our own. 'I Give You My Life' is a bit of a folk song, and the first single that I produced with Grace. This is the song that convinced me that I needed to produce some more songs with her. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
