About songwriting:

What a pleasure to have worked and produced with a number of amazingly talented musicians and vocalists over the years! Songwriting is a unique path, a path that unfolds bit by bit, and one never knows what is around the corner! It's a game of waiting and wondering and hoping, and of not knowing what others will think. It's this 'unknown' that makes me even more grateful that you've met me here... Great things are happening!

HOPE'S CREED (my band!)

New song coming mid-May, 2024! 'Psalm 103, Praise the Lord O My Soul is my first 'worship' song, and the first song recorded and filmed live with a choir! It was amazing to see the choir interact with the song, such a blessing. 'Love Says' was released in fall of 2023 and speaks of how Christ calls us to follow him, change our lives, and that basically, he's the answer!!! Not the world or the culture. Our summer song, 'Alberta Skies (Windows Down, Radio Up!) was such a pleasure to write, then develop with the band, produce, film, and finally, release! Alberta Skies was written in Peru, under the Peruvian stars, on the beach. Yup. There's a story there :) Suffice it to say that stargazing while watching beach volleyball, late one night, was enough the really strike the chords of creativity and thankfulness in me; thankfulness at having grown up in the wild windiness of the Alberta prairies, under the endless skies that were sometimes so blue it was unbelievable. Such great memories. I hope that as you listen to Alberta Skies, you also revisit your favourite memories! Plan a road trip... make more!

My first full-fledged project, SHELTER, is still so special to me because it launched my career as songwriter, and helped me grow into that very intimidating identity! Completed in 2015; 'Shelter' was a partnership with Nashville-based singer/songwriter Elena Chavez. Her voice, spirit, and heart expressed so perfectly the ideas I had put into words. I'm very grateful to have been able to work with Elena. 'Shelter' is available for purchase on CDbaby, just follow the link on the Home page. Conversely, listen here on my website!

About Teaching Music

My teaching studio is at my home, on my beautiful Shigeru Kawai. I love both 'piano paths' - the performance- based approach of exam preparation, as well as the more relaxed 'learning to learn' approach. Music should be enjoyed. Practice time at home should be called 'progress time' - it's so much more motivating! My students are guaranteed to make enjoyable and satisfying progress, as lessons are always geared towards understanding. My emphasis will always be on understanding and ear-training, rather than (awful) straight memorization. This can turn even the least confident student into a confident, self-directed learner, no matter their age or ability. I love to play with my students, interacting as much as possible during class.
